El, If you will forgive this quasi-rant.

I'm just noodle-ing here, but I think that Gartner is reflecting the gist of the inside advice that MS has given to Compaq and Dell. I think that MS believes that Win 2000 is a Sea Change, I think that MS wants everything to work, I think that they have decided not to bulldoze the release, like they did with 98/95, where the SOP was to sell 20 Million copies and fix the glitches on the fly or afterwards, I think that they do not want to bury the bug list, I think that they have warned CPQ and Dell and UIS that they want to take it slow, and I think that is why CPQ, Dell, and UIS all gave the exact same guidance, that q1 and q2 will not be a ballstothewall launch, and that UNIX/Solaris/Linux/Netware will eventually go with a whimper and not a bang, ...

if you catch my drift.
