bgr, the market now is not equal to many markets in the past. to compare them is to compare apples and oranges.

if you compare this market with other markets that had similar valuations, what was the result?

did you know that for each $1 this country produces in gdp there are $2 in trading?

this never occurred in the 80s. or 70s. or 60s. or 50s. or 40s. or 30s. it did in the 20s, though. 1929, to be exact.

while direct correlations of the present to 1929 are error prone, so is comparing this market to, say, the 1990s, for example.
