Summary of systems being sold in San Diego by small computer
stores which build their own computers. Based on advertise-
ments in the weekly ComputorEdge flyer -- a free publication
in San Diego county, weighted by the number of locations of
each company. Small ads advertising a single system are
excluded, also system configurations without pricing. I
missed last Friday's issue, so this is 3 weeks since my last
update.

Trends
------
WOW! Over half of all stores are selling the Athlon 750 or faster, and
Athlon penetration has reached 83%. In this issue of ComputorEdge,
the first 13 ads all featured Athlon systems. In 72% of the stores, and
Athlon system is the fastest system (in MHz) you can buy, and in
another 10% of stores, Athlon ties the PIII in MHz. Stores selling
Coppermines (PIII>600 MHz) went way up this week (52% from 24%), but
every store selling Coppermine also sells Athlon and, on average, they are
73 MHz faster.
Stores selling K6's dropped significantly this week,
but this may be exaggerated by the general absense of low-end dealers
from this issue. K6-3's continued to disappear, while Celerons are not even
shown since they are sold in 97% of stores.
