John - on QNTM it might me a little dangerous to implement that,
since right now there's a conference going on that could change
the mood. volumes look pretty light today (someone please
confirm) so I don't think today's rise is money managers buying.
I think it's folks like you and me buying into expected good
news, which would agree with your thoughts. still, I think the
best policy it to take the advice of phil fisher, which is to
choose a time to buy rather than a price. I think that time
is after earnings are released, and if you pay $30 or $40 at
that time it's good either way. whatever the price on friday
or monday, you'll be able to fully confirm your bullish view
before you buy it. of course if it's $50 by then so much for
phil. (BTW - his actual recomendation is to buy when you see
that expected fundamentals are getting in place according to
plan, ie - now is the time to buy HMTT according to that
thinking.)

now - since this is a general thread, I'd like to hear peoples
thoughts on the different operating models: seagate is a massive
do it all co with big expenses but lots of power to control its
own fate. quantum is going with specialization. I can't help
thinking that seagate is going to make everybody else rich by
acting as a sort of flywheel for the industry. pretty vague
thoughts, but it's a pretty confusing situation.
