CD-ROMS for Bob Logan / Guy Gordon / W. Song / Kassabian

WHEW ! How exciting, nobody has written to me in a long time ... Now three or four letters at once !
Seriously though, my post to Bob ( # 2795 ) should have probably been to Nagesh Kanumury. Your reply to Nagesh I felt was misleading because the term CD-ROM is often used in the generic... and it seemed like you explained things to him ( ? ) halfheartedly. Not so obviously, I was speaking of CD's, and specifically of CD-E.
My statement , new format CD's, " big players " etc. is literally just that .... a statement.
When, how, and where was not even remotely hinted at - JUST FACTS - you interpret them however you want.

Bob Logan -

Big players are : Ricoh, Pioneer, Yamaha, IBM, Phillips, Plasmon Data, Kodak .... do you really want more ? Or, should I say, " how white do you want your jeans Bob"?

When to the masses : You tell us Bob ... That way we can waste our time counting money, not typing our brains out.

Guy Gordon -

Speed : Pinnacle Micro 10X transfer rate of 1.5Mb/sec. shipping now $299.00 ( ? )
Phillips, Plextor 8X drives out now ...
Pioneer & Yamaha newly released 4X recorders

CD will replace the ZIP ( probably CD-E ) matter of time.

Storage Capacity : new CD's 1.2 Meg SOON Within 24 months 2.5 Meg ... You watch !

William Song -

My error should have said CD-E. BUT, A LASER doesn't have to burn anything . CD-E is based upon phase change ... utilizing a laser to physically change bits on the media . Am I correct ?

Armen Kassabian -

You are absolutely right ... and so were a lot of hard drive manufacturers and floppy manufacturers.... who have or will go under. Not being " miserable " as I basically really do understand your position. What's your point though? Is Iomega going to keep skyrocketing ?
Love the way they just screwed us , yes us, by their secondary offering to institutions.
Motorola makes Iomega look like a kids lemonade stand ... their stock is a screamer, right !!!
The very reason that Iomega has been so good ( at least until lately ) is that they sort of
developed a concept and a product that people like you would have discounted at the time.
Good for Iomega , REALLY ... JUST DON'T DISCOUNT THE FUTURE. The trick is to move along and find the next Iomega ... Maybe that's all I was saying in my original post.
