RM, i'd like to draw your attention to these two excellent reports on the state of the long term oil fundamentals. i have posted the links before, but you may have missed them.

there can be no doubt that our economy is in need of a reasonably cheap and efficient source of energy. sooner or later though, the current oil-based model will not be viable anymore. i believe that high oil prices are indeed a blessing in disguise. they will spur on research for alternative sources of energy that will be needed in the long term anyway. fuel cells are one example of this search for alternative sources of energy having already begun. while this is a little bit blue sky as of yet, i believe that we will ultimately find ways to harness nuclear power in a different form than is available now, i.e. in the form of 'cold fission'.
one day we may even build a Dyson sphere to make full use of the Sun's energies, who knows.
the fact remains that our dependence on fossil fuels cannot continue forever.

regards,

hb
