re. berries

Annette

do blueberries spread like raspberries?

Not where I live. Blueberries require acid soil. Since mine is naturally alkaline, Hurculean efforts are required. Raspberries spread by their rhizome roots. Perhaps some sort of underground barrier would work. BTW I have a Blue Jay (bird) problem with my berries.

does your horticultural zone match New England's

Not quite! Just far enough inland to be out of the coastal fog. Very mild. Summers rarely above 90 and winters rarely below freezing at night - some years it never freezes. The nearest to your local that I've experienced, was living in the Poconos (where the raspberries grow wild) and the Delaware Valley many years ago.

your favorite blackberry and raspberry types

Well I've already mentioned the Indian Summer raspberry. I have several types of blackberries, but I guess my favorite is the Olallie berry. This is a California berry that is 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 in. long. Honest! I never saw anything like that when I lived "back east".
