Dave, thanks a bunch for your notes. They are very valuable. Just wanted to make one comment:

Q: What about RDRAM in servers?
A: Most Sun system still ship with EDO DRAM. The server manufacturers tend to be a couple of years behind as they tend to be cautious and they have slightly different needs.

I'm not so sure Rambus was being forthcoming with the answer to this question. Yes, a lot of servers, including Sun servers and 4-way Xeon systems, are shipping with EDO DRAM. But that doesn't answer the question of whether RDRAM can make headway into servers further down the road.

The word is that no one wants RDRAM in servers, and that DDR seems to be the memory of choice in this market. Intel is finding that RDRAM is a great memory for workstations and high-end desktops. Maybe it can even penetrate into the low-end market if the costs of RDRAM can somehow be reduced. However, for servers, RDRAM is pretty much a no-go. Expect Intel-based servers to move to DDR sometime in the future.
