Interesting article (Interview with Craig Barrett) Intel makes Net infrastructure play infoworld.com Some extracts: "There will also be a 64-bit launch midyear with the IE [Internet Exchange] 64 processors. There's a lot of networking activity going on. We're really excited about the Internet Exchange and network processors in that whole space". "We're going to adopt the same model that we had in the PC space, which is [to] provide the building blocks to a bunch of OEMs". Regards JC. PS. I believe the current IXP1200 chip has a 32-bit core. It looks like there will be a 64-bit rev by midyear.
