Mike, That was the article I believe I was referring to published way back in 1997. Can you verify the year?

1999, at least that's what I deduct from the URL.

If so, how did you locate it so fast??

These GB-sized hard disks must be good for something...

I would appreciate what your opinion of DT's move to a flat $50/month price structure for Internet access in Germany. Don't you think they will be overwhelmed with subscribers?

DT is already Europe's biggest ISP (4.2 million customers), well ahead of AOL. I don't think that demand will surge much after the flat rate introduction. My impression is that the general handling of PCs is more a problem than the costs. Recently I introduced two people to the Net, one 60, one 75 years old. They are struggling much more with Windows problems than with some additional DM on the monthly telecom bill. It's still a long way to McNealy's "dial tone" vision for Net usage. - My sister doesn't use her PC much, she prefers exchanging SMS messages on her Nokia phone with her friends. How do you account for such a behavior? It won't contribute to WWW statistics yet in some ways it is an even more advanced way of communicating than sending e-mails. (The "run rate" transmission volume of DT SMS messages was 2.9 billion/year in 12/99.)
