I was wrong about the .25 K6-x part. The guy who seemingly remembers everything, JC ( jc-news.com ) has cleared this up for us -
"Regarding AMD's 180nm ramp ... there's some confusion on it, so lemme remind you how it's working: It was announced that all Athlon wafer starts as of November 1st were 180nm, and all Athlons shipping out of the fabs were 180nm as of February 1st (and perhaps a few days before that). According to AMD, K6-x wafer starts were scheduled to be 100% 180nm by the last day of 1999. So, assuming that wafer starts as of January 1st were 180nm, and assuming that K6-x has the same fab life as K7 (it probably takes less time, since Athlon has more packaging and stuff), the fabs should be 100% 180nm for K6-x output before April 1st (mind you, doesn't mean that it will be, but this is the assumption based on perfect, as they say, execution)."
Also, JC has found a PIII 800 listing at Pricewatch!!! It is ONLY $1002. Combine that with 128MB DRDRAM and you already have a system worth $2000!
To look at the positive side, the 800 took less time to be listed than the 733. 10 weeks (vs. the Athlon 800's 10 days) ain't too bad when one has the 733 to compare to! |
