Whilst the nerds may want Linux, they don't really make the decisions. The decision on which OS to use normally comes from very high up in the management chain - often right from the very top. These decision makers have usually been well lobbied by all the competing vendors and resellers, along with a bombardment of media information. They will then confer with their most trusted technical aides, who are unlikely to be Linux nerds.
