Computer Security Spending

Hockeyfan,

After waking up early this afternoon.....(ouch!)....I caught a couple of the weekend business shows.

I hope lots of investors got to watch them....they were all about the computer security issue....brought to attention by last weeks E-Tail attacks.

Yesterday, a major website also reported that a data file of customer credit card #s was stolen.......I can't remember the website, and would hate to go from a somewhat "hung-over" memory to guess. I think this will get more press coverage......unless the E-Tailers get together and kill the story. (funny how this happens sometimes)

Yikes!.......Credit card numbers stolen.

Anyhow......Those computer security analysts interviewed basically said the same thing.....Companies will be spending large amounts of money on computer network security....starting now......and that anonymity is the Achilles heel of the internet.

The company who got customer credit card #s stolen is screwed....I believe you will find out that that attack was done with help from within the enterprise. I doubt a hacker from China could download such sensitive information without inside help.

Although the focus of the conversation now is attacks from outside the enterprise....the danger of attacks from inside is much greater. People inside the enterprise have better access and knowledge of security measures and authentication requirements.

Imagine what would happen to Amazon if an angry employee (or one who had bought a load of put options) made off with 1 million customer credit card numbers....Posted them on the internet...or sold them to crooks...whatever......I think the stock would drop 80% within the first hour of the news being released.

Did you know that Verisign's certificate servers require biometric authentication for physical access? Hmmmmmm.

IDX gets stronger......as the computer security issue gets bigger. IMO.....this is one of the "planets" that seem to be lining up for us.
