As I understand it, a lot of people/companies are looking for an alternative to the significantly higher pricing, and contractual changes, of W2000, and MSD may just be opening up that "discussion". What I meant was I doubt if MSD's comments were carelessly made, which might be the case of an inexperienced manager/CEO/Chairman trying to pass the blame for a quarter or two. MSD is at Dell for the long haul and would not lose sight of the long run, so I think his comment was not a slip, was not unexpected by Bill Gates, and MSFT as a whole. Some at other levels of the company, who are loyal through and through, and bleed (I guess) Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green (whatever's comparable to an IBMer bleeding Blue), may be taken aback. But that's my read on the cc comments for now. And consistent with MSFT dropping 6 points Friday. Further feedback from your contacts would be appreciated. |
