A recent post on the CREE thread lead me to this company. First and foremost, I want to say that this company hasn't even begun to cross the chasm. I never the less encourage folks here to review the links. If this company can pull off half of what they claim, they would be the owners (calim 40 patents granted and applied for) of a discontinuous innovation impacting markets such as, CD, DVDs, flash memories, Data archiving, Data storage including hard disks, SAN, NAS. Furthermore their business model is to own and develop the technology and then license it to others. That's are favorite model, right? That point is also important because I believe that model permits faster chasm crossing.

There are a lot of things written on their site that send off warning signals and of course they have been in development mode the last 5 yrs(read only losses to date.) If they win a few meaningful licensees (Philips or another CD drive manufacturer) they could very rapidly progress across the chasm.

In short the technology allows them to deposit many more recording layers than a DVD since they use a fluorescent technique instead of a reflective one. They project being able to store 140 GB on a CD size disk.

Here is the link to their site:

There is a lot of technical information on the site (probably to compensate for lack of products). Be sure to navigate through to the news and tech section.

The Nasdaq symbol is CFMD. They recently filed form 10 and should be fully reporting soon if not already.

I bring them up to the board as consideration for project hunt (sorry I don't have enough spare time to do this justice). Especially in light of the recent comments about how early one needs to enter into candidates.

Once again I want to warn people here that this company seems to be at a stage where it has a very high risk(much, much more risky than say a CREE)....but that risk may change rapidly in the course of this year if they achieve the things they project.

Just out beating the bushes...
