;-) They *are* good ...

What I can't figure out is why so many people just refuse to learn from them ... their tactics and strategies have not changed over the years, and have (obviously) proven to be so effective ... and I'm not talking about the ones that cross lines ...

So we'll see how Novell decides to deal with this situation. I was thoroughly impressed by the knowledge of the FLAIM team, the developers of the core database engine in NDS v8. I would not have guessed that the performance of AD would be so superior to NDS v8 ... but Microsoft also has some real database knowledge and talent.

I'm going to guess that there is some issue with the indexing of the directory data that might give AD the advantage ... but that's only a guess. If that's the case, the NDS v8 should be creating indexes dynamically based on needs so that it's performance would improve with use ...

In any case, Microsoft has just given Novell two specific issues to address with their products - LDAP performance (as tested by KeyLabs), and multiprocessor support. This is not something for Novell to "talk" their way out of ...

It's going to be a fun couple of months watching how things go ...
