RESEARCH ALERT-Merrill raises Office Depot to buy

NEW YORK, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch said Friday it is raising its rating on Office Depot Inc. (NYSE: ODP) to near-term/long-term buy from accumulate.

-- No further information was immediately available.

-- Office supply retailer Office Depot posted fourth-quarter earnings of $0.24 a share, surpassing Wall Street estimates.

-- Shares of Office Depot were off 5/16 to 13-3/4 in Friday morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
