I think that we are looking at a typical case of inept management. Management may be completely "ept" (competent) is the traditional business with which it has been dealing, but when it tries to catch a new wave of business, it may not really understand that business. The examples are legion: US Steel in the oil business, IBM and Sears in the e-portal business (remember Prodigy?), Kaisar in the Automobile business (even Sears Roebuck sold them). If people could go to jail for this kind of error in judgement, there wouldn't be many managers walking free (even Warren Buffet stumbled a few times: Still have US Airways, do you?). Let's just hope that a new CEO can understand how to make a go of some pretty good "name recognition" products that TLC has.
