I'm not the best person to tell you this, but I'm sure you know that the frequency spectrum used by ADSL can be subdivided between upstream/downstream any way the designer sees fit - equally, or unequally. Unequally = asymetrically = ADSL.

Hypothetically, you could run 8Mbps upstream, and 768Mbps downstream.

It's total bandwidth, frequency spectrum and the efficiency of using these that are the issues.

I suppose at least ten lurkers will inform you of that much more eloquently, and perhaps, as well, with mathematical equations. :)
