ExciteAtHome joins WAP forum

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- ExciteAtHome announced
Sunday that it had joined the wireless application protocol forum, a global
consortium seeking to develop standards for wireless data and e-commerce
transactions on the Internet.
"We're committed to developing the forward-thinking applications for users
that will comprise the future of the wireless industry," said Rob Wilen, head
of ExciteAtHome's wireless operations.
The forum is a
consortium of handset
manufacturers, wireless
carriers, enablers and
content providers.
Wilen said joining the
forum will advance
high-speed Internet
access provider's efforts
to offer "the most
personalized mobile
portal."
Excite (ATHM: news, msgs) currently provides mobile portal services to
the Palm VII and AT&T PocketNet services. The services include a
calendar, e-mail, lottery results, stock quotes, weather information, news
and sports scores.
