It does not work like that.

Do you remember mid to late 1998? Semi's were bleeding and DELL was flying. Where you worried about the discrepancy then?

Semi's are very cyclical due to high fixed cost of fab capacity. Once the fab is built, due to depreciation cost, it must produce regardless of margins. There is currently a capacity shortage with no relief in sight, thus the semi's large price gains. Computer OEM's are different ball game altogether and their success is not necessarily related to the chip makers success.
