Douglas, I just read your post. Last week I made the same request on the gglistserve and someone posted this URL, which has some elementary as well as sophisticated primers for optical and general telecomm DD. I really think it is a must see for general background as well as good overview of current sophistication and general direction of the field. I hope you enjoy, and pass on, this URL.
