Charles, I know the "quiz", and I dislike it. It is not even accurate. Hitler was big on consulting with astrologists, and that is not mentioned. Although he was not married, and therefore cannot have had "extramarital affairs", there is some evidence that he bedded teenagers before hooking up with Eva Braun, who was, after all, his mistress. We know that he abused drugs, primarily sedatives and amphetamines. There are other things, but the point is clear.....
There is no point in saying that Churchill was "kicked out of office twice", as if that were not an ordinary hazard of being a politician in a democracy. Although it is true that he slept late, he also worked late, and sometimes worked through the night as Prime Minister. According to his private secretary, the amount he drank was always grossly exaggerated, because he watered down his whiskey, and nursed it. It is not as if he were drunk most of the time......
Why would one emphasize Roosevelt's "association with crooked politicians", and leave out that Hitler cohorts were largely paramilitary rabble, refugees from the insignificant fringes of politics? Again, the drinking is over- emphasized, since we are talking 8 to 10 martinis over about a twelve hour period, from about lunchtime until he turned in. It is not as if they were all consumed in the evening. Stretched out like that, Roosevelt would have been lucky to have kept a "buzz on".....
But the main thing is that Hitler was responsible for starting a World War and exterminating millions of people, and Churchill and Roosevelt were responsible for putting an end to his regime. And that is the bottom line....... |
