Network Associates detects Web attack agents

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb 14 (Reuters) -

Internet security firm Network Associates Inc. (NasdaqNM:NETA - news) on Monday said it had detected each of the three major ``Zombie' agents, which have been attacking well known Web sites such as Yahoo! and Amazon.com.

The company said its computer security product, CyberCop Zombie Scan detected Tribal Flood Network, Trinoo and Stacheldraht strains, on several systems in the United States and Europe, in both educational and non-educational networks.

No further information was immediately available.

In all cases, the network administrators have been notified and the impaired systems have been removed from the Internet.

"The only way to stop this DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) threat is to find the malicious code that is currently residing on systems.

We are providing Zombie Scan free to the Internet community to end this threat," Zach Nelson, president and chief executive of myCIO.com.

``We hope that the confirmation that CyberCop Zombie Scan has positively identified all three agents in the wild will compel organisations who have not yet scanned their systems to do so.'
