Pat, here is the translation:
"Siemens will strengthen its position as the world's number one in telecommunication networks on the basis of the IP."

Munich. This new endevor has already resulted in a noticable increase in contracts from information and communication networks by more than one fourth, said board member A. Maher. Siemens received multimillion (DM?)contracts from DT and Portugal T.

Over the space of several years Siemens is going to deliver 200 million DM 's worth of broadband technology products to DT. This technology will permit access to enterprise networks and service providers with higher speeds over the internet.

The hard fought victory over competition to obtain the Portugal IP technology contract is of strategic importance to Siemens. "Portugal can now be a top provider of internet services to the business market" said Maher.

Siemens also has high hopes for its new architecture named HiPath. This technology, which will be exibited at Cebit, allows worldwide integration of language and data applications over all types of networks.
Siemens claims that enterpises will gradually convert their communications (?) to IP technology. The system anticipates open industry standards and permits customers to employ new applications or to further develop existing infrastructure.

Siemens wants to grow faster than the market in info and communications networks. Maher anticipates growth in excess of 10% per year for this business which should reach 600 million DM by 2004.

In the previous year the restructured information and communications business of Siemens which employs 60000 resulted in annual sales of 24 billion DM, and in R and D expenditures of 4 billion DM.

EOM . I am not a techno person, more like a techno peasant. So please excuse any mistranslated technical terms.
