Business Summary Ballard Power Systems Inc. is engaged in the development and commercialization of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and fuel cell systems. A fuel cell is an environmentally clean power generator that combines hydrogen fuel with oxygen, without combustion, to produce electricity, with pure water and heat as the only by-products. It is an electrochemical device that produces electricity efficiently and continuously, as long as fuel is supplied. The Company is developing PEM fuel cells for use in transportation, stationary power generation and portable applications. Financial Summary Ballard Power Systems is engaged in the development and commercialization of proton exchange membrane fuel cells and related power generation systems for stationary, transportation and other applications. For the six months ended 6/99, total revenues fell 65% to C$18.8 million. Net loss totalled C$26.2 million vs. income of C$12.3 million. Revenues reflect the absence of a $27.1 million gain on the issuance of shares. Net loss reflects a higher equity in loss of associated companies.
