consider IDC/TXN partnership from today's TXN newsrelease:

Compare TXN (Texas Instruments) statement today with that of Interdigital's President's statement in September of last year:

TXN: "The TLV320AIC10 includes extensive application support, reducing customer design time. The TLV320AIC10 evaluation module (EVM) plugs directly onto the TMS320C54x(TM) and TMS320C62x(TM) EVMs eliminating the need for customer fabricated boards or soldering. A fully-tested TLV320AIC10 interface software driver is available for use within the Code Composer Studio development environment for the 'C54x(TM) DSP. The interface software driver functionality includes DSP serial port configuration, codec configuration, DAC and ADC data transfer, and allows master/slave codec operation. This level of support eliminates customer design risk and enables a working 'C54x(TM) DSP solution within hours, which is a ten fold improvement over competitive solutions. "Many codecs available today actually hinder DSP performance with excessive interrupts and limited serial interface flexibility, but the new TLV320AIC10 unleashes the full potential of TI's DSPs," said Tom Lahutsky, New Product Development Manager, Data Converters for TI's Advanced Analog Products. ``The combination of powerful serial interface, low power dissipation and applications support make the TLV320AIC10 the industry's best codec for DSP-based voice-band applications."

Note that the term "software driver" is used in the TXN article. In IDC's statement it is principally the same, "software tools", "stream-lined design processes" in IDC, "eliminates customer design risk" in TXN.

Both the TXN news release today and IDC's release in September were talking about overall DSP design capabilities. IDC is saying they have these tools in Septebmer 1999; today for the first time, TXN is saying they also have these same tools. Is there a conicidence? I do believe they speak of the same processes, yes. TXN is a little more detailed. Partners? yes.

"Mr. Doyle also explained that InterDigital's design methodology gives the Company an advantage in delivering new wireless technologies faster and with lower total cost. He said that the use of leading-edge software tools and streamlined design processes allows InterDigital to transfer technology in a usable format, known as executable specifications."
