Jeff--

Someone's getting confused. Someone means, did anyone actually say that FDR was a "symbol of the Industrial Revolution"? Wrong period, for starts. But let's recall Terry's original post: evidently we're to regard Edison as a Hero, and FDR as an Evil, maybe even Fascist, would-be dictator. Seems strained to me. To say the very least. Yes, FDR tried to go way too far in his second term--Supreme Court stuffing and all the rest--but he was stopped. Still, he was a politician and Edison was an inventor. What would Edison have done if he'd been elected President? What might FDR have invented?--well, okay, apparently he actually did invent a wheelchair that worked for him, but in the broader sense? Apples and oranges.
