--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Metrocall's Systems Application Division Dominates Market Share in the Healthcare Industry

More Than 250,000 Medical Professionals Rely on Metrocall Wireless Systems & Devices in Emergency Circumstances
New Business Unit Will Now Market Systems, Wireless Products & Servicestyo Other Industries
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Metrocall, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCLL) today announced the creation of a new Systems Application Division which will be headed by Nancy M. Green, Vice President. Green will direct more than 30 highly trained technical sales personnel who will call on businesses and not-for-profit organizations all across the nation. The division, previously known as the Medical System Sales business unit, had been narrowly focused on selling wireless systems and applications to hospitals. Due to Green's leadership and the unit's effectiveness, the Company now dominates the medical and healthcare industry in terms of wireless messaging market share.

"Effective today Nancy Green and her sales organization are being given a 'green light' to market Integrated Resource Management (IRM) systems, Alertlink, and other wireless data and messaging products and services to businesses in virtually every industry and to all types of service organizations," stated Steven D. Jacoby, chief operating officer of Metrocall. "Thanks to Nancy and her staff, today more than a quarter million doctors, nurses, medical and emergency service professionals rely on Metrocall wireless messaging systems and devices in life and death situations, on a daily basis. Now we will take that impressive record to other venues," he added.

A year-end 1999 Metrocall Marketing Department customer census reveals that Metrocall now supplies and services a large number of medical and healthcare customers unsurpassed by any other wireless data and messaging carrier. Some 4,084 major hospitals, clinics, medical and healthcare facilities nationally are now Metrocall subscribers utilizing hundreds of IRM systems, and hundreds of thousands of wireless data and messaging devices as well as cellular and digital PCS phones.

The IRM System is an on-premise, real time directory and messaging application scalable to 5,000 or more users. Intranet and LAN/WAN clients and Network PC workstation users can access data and then easily transmit wireless data messages to the selected subscribers.

Alertlink monitors critical inputs, such as patient information, lab diagnostics, event transactions and MIS. It automatically dispatches the pertinent information to the right personnel through Metrocall's wireless data devices on or off-premises. In commercial (non-medical) facilities, Alertlink can interface with engineering, MIS and telecommunications systems, alarm systems and other key facilities functions

Metrocall, Inc., headquartered in Alexandria, VA, is one of the largest wireless data and messaging companies in the United States serving more than six million (pro forma with recently announced acquisition of NationPage) subscribers. In addition, Metrocall markets digital PCS phones and offers two-way messaging via a nationwide wireless data network. Metrocall is the largest equity owner of Inciscent, a joint venture, business-to-business enterprise with Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: AETH), PSINet, Inc. (Nasdaq: PSIX) and financial investors Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst, Inc. and Deutsche Banc. Alex. Brown. Inciscent is a national full service "wired-to-wireless" Application Service Provider (ASP).
