Jerry Castellini on CNBC said:
"Compaq, still struggling still trying to find a home, still having dell take a chunk of server business, so while they are trying real hard i know they have had a very positive sounding comments recently, I would shy way from compaq right here. "
Referring to CPQ's and Dell's Q4 reports; sequentially, Dells total revenues were flat, enterprise was flat, Desktops were down offset exactly by the rise in laptops. Cpq's total revenues were up 14% sequentially, Enterprise was up 7%, and within that, standard servers were up 13% (where Dell competes) Commercial PC revenue was up 15% consumer PC's up 34%.
It is hard to see where CPQ lost share to Dell in Q4 unless it was in Portables.
CPQ breaks out operating income by group which ought to give analysts a clearer view how the company is doing. They appear not to have picked up on it. Castellini appears to be off base, but maybe he is talking units, or taking in consideration that the companies quarters have different months. Anyone inclined to elaborate or give a different slant on earnings? |
