Nice little run today. More to come, imho: BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2000--Vixel Corporation (Nasdaq: VIXL) today announced the selection of its Fibre Channel switches as the central storage network connection in one of the industry's most powerful streaming media systems.
Avid Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: AVID), a leading provider of digital video and audio tools for information and entertainment applications, and InfoLibria, Inc., a company enabling service providers to deliver content-based Internet services, have joined forces to create the industry's preeminent system for streaming audio and video content over the Internet. The system is comprised of the Avid Unity(TM) solution, InfoLibria's MediaMall technology and Microsoft Corporation's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows NT and Windows Media Technologies. Within the Avid Unity solution, the Vixel 8100 Fabric Switch provides the robust and reliable storage component, ensuring high-speed data transfer.
The advanced streaming media system moves digital content over the Internet at an unprecedented 1.6 gigabits per second rate. The system combines the Avid Unity product, a highly scalable shared storage solution designed specifically for the needs of digital audio and video, with InfoLibria's MediaMall multimedia management and delivery system, giving service providers the hardware and software infrastructure necessary for delivering CD-quality audio and television-quality video to their customers. The combination of these technologies creates a system that enables 1,500 broadband customers to simultaneously experience television-quality audio and video via the Web.
"This break-through system utilizes the latest technology in digital video and audio and Internet streaming.
