According to the latest report conducted by research company International Data Corporation, the sales of personal computers in Asia Pacific (except Japan) hit a new high in 1999. More than 14.1 million computers were sold last year, indicating that the economy in the region has bottomed out.

The sales growth in South Korea topped the region. Around 2.19 million computers, an increase of 79.2 per cent, were sold, making the country the second largest market in the region.

Mainland China, the largest market in Asia Pacific, saw a 25.6% rise in sales on a turnover of 4.9 million computers, accounting for a 34.8 per cent market share in the region.
