CNBC reporting Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway has a new position in C, likely arising from the WSJ article.

2/5/00 WSJ:
Documents the Omaha, Neb., holding company filed late Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission also showed Berkshire holding $449 million of Citigroup Inc. stock at the end of 1999.
...
The $449 million of Citigroup shares Berkshire lists in its year-end update of holdings appears new, although Mr. Buffett's company has held substantial amounts of stock in Citigroup predecessors. Berkshire was an investor in Salomon Inc., and became a holder of more than $1 billion of Travelers shares when Travelers bought Salomon in a 1997 stock transaction. When Travelers and Citicorp merged to form Citigroup in late 1998, Berkshire received Citigroup shares.

The SEC's release last year of confidential Berkshire filings led most observers to conclude that Berkshire had eliminated its Citigroup position. The nonconfidential filing Berkshire made for Sept. 30, 1999, didn't list Citigroup, suggesting to some observers that the stake listed for the Dec. 31 period is newly acquired.
