REAL WORLD USAGE OF THE PALM

biz.yahoo.com

This is a link to an article about a car dealership's usage of the PALM for inventory management. Coincidentally, I just became aware of another such real-world usage that has a lot of potential.

I do computer work for a Chicago-area high school that uses an Informix database as its student/staff/finance DBMS (database management system). They are rolling out an applet for the PALM that will allow anyone (in this case, the school's security staff) to access a student's record, schedule, etc. while roaming around the school. For now, it's NOT based on the PALM VII and telecomm but that's coming. This implementation is done on PALM IIIx's and involves a daily synch of the PALMs with the database at that point via the cradle.

SO MANY situations lend themselves to this type of PALM usage - schools, warehouses, hospitals... the list goes on.

By the way, does anyone have any confirmation of the U.S. military ordering PALM VII's for troops in the field, global positioning, etc.? On one of the msg boards someone mentioned this but perhaps it's just hearsay at this point. (?)

THANK YOU
