AMD fixed their prices below Intel's prices and below cost of manufacture. Cyrix was their main competition at the low end and they drove the competition out of business by predatory pricing.

I thought that Intel was the main competition at the low end.

Big bad AMD loves to sell chips below cost. Poor little innocent Intel was just a victim of the price war last year.
