The opposite could occur this time for Intel. Intel is going to have to give up market share to AMD in order maintain its profit margins and quarterly earnings, and all the benefits that come from having a richly valued stock.

While I agree to some extent with your argument, you have to remember that Intel is rich with venture capital investments that will enable Intel to maintain it's earnings at a satisfactory level for a good while.

Secondly if it were an all out war, I am not sure how the first tier OEMs would react when Intel demands allegiance and they will make that demand at some point.
