Why 3 G roll out will be slower than you think 3G Cellular Handset Launch Hit By Power Problems RDSL 15 February 2000 The launch of 3rd-generation cellular handsets could be delayed over problems with chipset power consumption, with more work needed to cut the amount of power used by amplifiers and baseband circuitry so they can be used in handheld terminals, according to Guenter Weinberger, head of wireless products at Infineon Technologies. Weinberger insists existing designs consume too much power and would made terminals too hot to hold.
