Editor Diefendorff said the Alpha architecture has always been know for
speed, but has achieved very little market presence. Compaq is the only
significant OEM to use Alpha chips in its servers, and Diefendorff predicted
that even the Houston PC maker would switch to Intel chips once its 64-bit
processors become available later this year. "I can't imagine that Compaq will
continue to carry the [Alpha] architecture forward," he said.

hlpin...

This made its rounds in Usenet in comp.arch... collectively
we got a good laugh (those that understand Alpha somewhat).
One poster mentioned that Keith bit real hard on Elberus ?
(Russian Merced killer) and lost credibility with him a
year ago...

Essentially, as another points out this is editorial
comment on his part and as Rude points out Tandem is
one of several proof points that Alpha has a lot of
mileage.

My take on this? Keith is taking up where Linley
Gwennap left off... chief Intel lapdog in charge of
FUD and whatnot... if interested find the recent comp.arch
thread Subject: FUD

See ya,
Rob
