ABN AMRO Bank Selects Optibase and Cisco Systems' Video Networking Solution For New Trading Facilities
Financial Traders Can Now View Real-Time Video Feeds and Simultaneously Track Market Changes from Their Desktops
HERZLIYA, Israel, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Optibase (Nasdaq: OBAS - news) today announced that the ABN AMRO Bank in The Netherlands has successfully completed installation of a video distribution network based on Cisco Systems' (Nasdaq: CSCO - news) IP/TV® broadcast servers which support 750 endpoints and incorporate Optibase's VideoPlex(TM) XPress decoding platform for streaming live video to the desktop.

ABN AMRO bank, headquartered in The Netherlands, employs more than 65,000 people and operates in more then 70 countries and territories worldwide. In order to provide the best financial service to their customers, the bank's financial traders need to be constantly updated on market changes via live news feeds and stock analysis data. Serving this need ABN AMRO has selected Cisco Systems' video networks solution alongside Optibase's video networking decoding platform, the VideoPlex XPress, to provide real time video overlay on the desktop.

ABN AMRO's new dealing facilities consist of approximately 750 PCs, which receive video news updates in the form of an MPEG-1 video stream at 1.2Mbps. Each desktop is capable of displaying video-in-a window that can be viewed from any one of four computer monitors. Ongoing financial information can now be viewed simultaneously with the video in real time.

''We chose Optibase's VideoPlex XPress hardware decoder,'' said Marc Berting, Product Specialist Systems Engineering (Trading Floors) at ABN AMRO ''because the video quality was superior. The Optibase solution consumed significantly less processing power than software decoding solutions. This was an important criterion during the product selection phase, because adding video-in-a-window capability to the desktop had to place little burden on our processors, which had to run critical business applications simultaneously. Furthermore, high quality video across the enterprise has become a reality using the IP/TV solution.''

Andy Hall, EMEA Video Account Manager with Cisco Systems said that, ''The combination of Optibase's MPEG digital video technology and Cisco's IP/TV is the optimal solution for customers who wish to deliver high quality video to power users. We are looking forward to additional deployments.''

''We are proud to team together with Cisco Systems to provide a video distribution network to ABN AMRO'' said Yaniv Garty, VP Marketing & Business Development at Optibase. ''Our work with Cisco showcases Optibase's competence in the digital video networking arena, and demonstrates our commitment to becoming the premier provider of media streaming solutions for the network infrastructure.''
