George, thanks for the heads up. You are the second person who has brought this to my attention. I'll be sure to ask our IEEE Communications Society (COMSOC) [Karl W., you there?] representative to come up with these papers when they become available, and I look forward to any comments you may have of same, as well.

Regards, FAC

ps - Internet time is manifesting itself very clearly here. The notion of a digital baseband delivery scheme to homes and small offices, replacing the decades old analog FDM schemes of the past, seemed almost unthinkable only a year ago, except for some lower speed Ethernet variations over last mile DSL plays such as Elastic Technologies'. Today, we are seeing evidence of a pending arrival of GbE to the "x" (where x = home, small office, rural office complex, etc.) supported by discrete optical lambdas from optical field nodes.

In the near future I hope to synopsize several reports which I am currently digesting on some near-future GbE (and some more distant-future 10GbE) WAN and residential passive optical network (PON) applications, which may serve to reinforce some of these ideas.
