It will also be very important for it to be a standard that becomes entrenched and that cannot be easily ousted. This is the part that I need to understand better, but also the part that is worrisome for me.

Your statement "The question now is if INTC can complete their plan" reaffirms that INTC would fit into the category, but also suggests that my term "enabling technology" might be more appropriate (UF and I might have to work out the semantics on that one).
