You're right. The fact is, for most commercial applications, the fat client is a "sunk cost". New applications may well implement thin clients where appropriate -- but the majority of business' internal dealings will, I think, continue to be done on fat clients for some time to come.

I've been consulting with a small company ($40 Million sales, 50 employees, 3 locations) about new software where a thin client implementation would make a lot of sense. YOU CAN'T GET THESE GUYS TO TURN LOOSE OF THESE PCs. Period. They could get by fine with a damned WebTV they STILL want PCs.
