Williamette sucks | jonhou | Tuesday 19:40 EST
Willamette specifications have also been released today and they are VERY disappointing IMHO unlike the opinion of other sites. Intel demonstrated a 1.5 GHz Willamette at the Intel Developer Conference. Basically, the FPU runs at half the clock rate (750MHz or 1.5 GHz?). Some sites have been reporting that the FPU runs at 1.5Ghz and the Integer ALU runs at 3GHz. Intel is promoting its new SIMD instructions more than FPU.

Seems that they are losing badly in the FPU race because it will not be great considering it only runs a half clockspeed. Also, to get to 1.5GHz, they had to double the latency and finally, the processor uses a 20 stage pipeline! If you thought WinChip5's 18 stage pipeline was huge.... which translates into high MHz but lower performance per MHz. It seems that Willamette could be the WinChip5 design bought from Centaur since the WinChip4 was supposed to have the same half-FPU thing and WinChip5 has a huge stage pipeline like Willamette. This is not a great achievement on Intel's part :(.

errrr..... plus other assorted nonsense..... [updated] | BiZ | Tuesday 18:26 EST
update:Gather around my fellow AMD brethren, for our friends over at BXBoards have taken a look at the mighty EPoX EP-7KXA, Slot A, Via KX133, Athlon motherboard. Try, just try and not wet your pants with excitement. I bet you can't do it. No way. Just give it up. Go ahead and do it. You know you want to. Just relax....... and..... *ahhhhhhhhh.....* Ewww..... You nasty...

Damn you Intel, WE WILL NOT FALL FOR THIS SILLYNESS AGAIN!!!! If you think you can debut a 1.5GHz CPU, and think that we, the buying public, are gonna get all "giddy", when we still can't even get ahold of a freagin' 800MHz PIII..... well.... you be smokin' some good ass shit, man. I think not boyz, I think not! Hey, here's a novel concept! Howz about you guys put out a "real" product. You know, one that we can actually see, without using our "minds eye". Howz that sound, eh? Pretty freakin' good idea, ain't it? Seems to be workin' for another CPU company you mighta heard about. It rhymes with Shmay-Em-Dee... Bah..... Stupid fat dummies. Jerks. Sum-a-bitches.

Anyways, mass condensed newsage follows. Here's a link to hopefully the last GeShmorf review ever. Please, for the sake of all mankind, no more GeForce reviews. We all know what the stinkin' card can do. We've all seen the benchmarks. Really... We have. I wouldn't lie to you.

Other stuff, concerning all I "really" care about, when it comes to computers. Overclocking. If your gonna overclock, do it the manly way. That is, with water. Check out this guy's crib, cuz he tells ya how to do it, utilizing some good ass kung-fu MacGyver shit. Man that show was cool.... way back in the day at least... Not so much now though. He did pimp the hunnies, though. Ya gotsta admit.... Oh yeah, news. There's another vaporware interview over at Sharkeys. Bit Boys tells us more of what they told us last time. All I can say is..... Wow. How great. Gee. Thanks. There goes another 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Bastards.

Um... what else..... Did anyone else see that Presidential online interview thingy last night? Personnally, I find his televised events many times more enjoyable, if I tape a piece of paper to my TV that states, "Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire". At least that way, I won't forget that he's a dirty stinkin' liar. Anyways, at least he came clean and announced the President of the U.S. likes online porn. Of course, then the P.R. people, or as they're more commonly refered to as, Nazis, tried to do the "politically correct" thing, and make it look like a hacker posted the message. But we all know "the deal". Oh yeah, Bill, we "know"....

Could their possibly be anything else? Hot chicks maybe? Dohp! (think Homer Simpson...) How about seriously overclocked computers? Whadda 'bout some truely freaky shit? Uh..... Whatever.

Intel WIlliamette rumor/speculation | jonhou | Tuesday 09:28 EST
The following is rumor from our source about Intel's upcoming desktop processor: Williamette (due to arrive at the end of the year).

Willamette has 400MHz (200MHzDDR) Frontside bus. MMX has been extended to 128bits, and 64bit SIMD (aka KNI) is included. The Williamette SIMD (WNI) is also said to be supported currently in Windows 98, 2000 and Windows NT SP5. Williamette will use Socket 423 and its power dissipation should be 1.5 to 2 times that of the P6.

Here, you may find some stuff for IA64 developers.
