100,

If we are awaiting the adoption of Gem's IPG into HDTVs as a defining moment, which may happen soon, then we better have alot of patience in waiting for the mass adoption of HDTV. I fear that in the next 3-5 yrs HDTV will make such a small ripple that we may not even notice it.

I agree completely. I still live by the axiom that a consumer electronics product won't go into mass-market adoption until the price is $500 or lower.

My comments about the defining moment have more to do about the ingredients needed to bring the members of the value chain together in a unified effort that those of us who closely study that market will see. Tornados do not form without value chains, so I'm looking for symptoms of a stronger value chain that we who study the product market closely will pick up on before those who only casually try to understand the company.

While I appreciate that there are many of us who own stock already in Gemstar, I still think it's important to focus on the defining moments that were at the center of that wonderful discussion months ago. Some of us (me) will add to our position depending on the strength of the defining moment. Others of us will understandably look for defining moments as validation that we should remain in the stock, that our original convictions remain justified.

As for the people with the options, I wish them good luck. Unless their option play is an insurance strategy, about all they've got in the short term is pure luck and I don't mean that disparagingly.
