Dorine, Hi!!
Mort Topfer is telling us DELL is ahead of schedule...
RE: TELE.SI, and Nasdaq-listed Pacific Internet Ltd PCNTF.O to expand bandwidth for 50,000 transactions per week. Topfer was also confident that Internet revenue would comprise half of Dell's Asia Pacific revenue this year, from a current proportion in the mid-40s. "We think it's a very achievable target," he said. Dell earned about $1 million in Asian revenue daily via Internet transactions, compared with about $40 million globally. The Asia Pacific region, excluding Japan, accounted for less than a tenth of global turnover. Topfer said a new manufacturing facility in China, Dell's eighth-largest market worldwide, would be completed by the last quarter of this year. Its other production base in Penang, Malaysia would be expanded in about 18 months. "We expect in the next two or three years, China would be the second largest (PC) market in the world, so (it offers) tremendous growth opportunities," Topfer said. Penang churned out 60-70 percent of Dell's 12 million annual unit shipments from Asia in 1999, but the new China facility was expected to even out shipments from China and Malaysia. Dell's Asia vice president Ron Goh told Reuters Dell's Asian operations would continue to outpace sector growth despite an expected global slowdown in revenue growth. "My take is that we will continue to see aggressive growth. We are making huge inroads into each country," he said. Besides China, Dell was also eyeing Australia, India and South Korea, Topfer said.
Dorine...it was August of 98 and I was working in the back yard...Drew called to read to me the Reuters release on DELL's plans for CHINA....Hey, I went nuts...yeah, even more crazed than usual...:o) Hard to believe huh?? :o)...Well, here we are staring at an announcement that rides the ladder of all the other ones I've collected on CHINA....Mort is usually the spokesperson here although I've had Kevin Rollins tell me in person his opinion of this growth potential....Michael has commented a number of times and article have depicted the possibilities here...Well, what any investor should understand is the potential here...DELL CHINA being the #2 market for DELL by 2003??? It was Mort's original prediction and not only has Michael told us they were ahead of schedule early this winter...Mort is pounding the table here for the longs to BUY DELL....IMO it doesnt get any clearer than this...CHINA is adopting to the direct model...Like Michael said in the Fortune article on DELL CHINA when it was suggested that the Chinese would not take to the direct model: "THAT'S WHAT THEY TOLD US ORIGINALLY ABOUT THE USA" :o) BUY DELL folks....Bought a ton in 98 when I heard that first release...DELL is ahead of schedule..."underestimate and then overachieve"...
