You can do the same in the USA, you can even mail order the stuff.

Which brings up an interesting true story about this guy that mail ordered some incredible amount of silver eagles - like 10,000 or 20,000 of 'em, I forget exactly - back about 13 years ago. He paid by wire the agreed price, but the dealer screwed up the order and sent him gold eagles! By US Mail! -g-

These boxes came to his local post office and a couple got busted up and spilled out. So the local postmaster frantically calls the guy up and tells him to get down right away and bring some friends and guns. -g-

The guy goes down and about has a heart attack, but hauls them over to the local bank to be locked up. To make the fiasco complete, the dealer then had a pissing contest with the guy over who was going to pay for the bank storage fees and sundry expenses! -g- Of course the guy prevailed and the dealer had to charter an armored car to retrieve the loot.
