I've never seen so much confusion. Isn't that the essence of FUD?

Just to add a quick ref on that, this one turned up via the Register's regular Hardware Roundup web survey.

There has also been some questioning on whether or not the 1.5 GHz Willamette that was shown, was also running at 1.5 GHz on the 3D graphic demo during the presentation. This developed from the fact that Albert Yu switched to a different machine when running the 3D rendering. Also, when they pointed out that the 1.5 GHz processor was being air-cooled, the system was not posting its clock speed, which spawned some people to question whether Intel used a specially cooled system to post the 1.5 GHz and used an air cooled system, running at who knows what speed to show the audience. While we feel this would be ridiculous, you never really know what's going on behind the scenes. Nonetheless, we feel that Intel did reach 1.5 GHz with the Willamette using only air cooling. In any case, it wouldn't make a difference anyhow as we can't even get our hands on these speed demons. (from tech-review.com )

On the "hands on" angle, this is somewhat in contrast to the cumine launch experience, where all the hardware sites had top speed grade engineering sample, clock-unlocked processors in hand, as opposed to poor Mikey Dell, who still doesn't seem to have many top speed grade processors in hand. All very entertaining, I say. I'm sure the hardware sites will be getting some of those "hundreds of thousands" of Willies that will be produced this year, and Mikey Dell probably won't care all that much at that point.

Cheers, Dan.
