I am not debating whether or not Linux is for real, Scott. The simple fact is that Linux, along with Corel's software complement, is being given away, from a pricing standpoint. Where will the profits come from, and when, that is what the market is asking. Cowpland has a history of not looking past his nose, as I am sure you know. Right now the only significant revenue he gets (aside from graphics) is derived by bundling his office suite with low end box manufacturers, from whom Corel gets virtually nothing. Corel continually come up with new bright ideas, but have no clue about how they will make a profitable business out of them. I, for one, do not believe that Cowpland could make a return on a lemonade stand, let alone on an emerging high tech endeavour like Linux. Regards. |
