ctb,

I've used dsl for a year and a half and been pretty pleased with it. The general consensus seems to be that a cable modem is preferred over a dsl connection, but I do not have first-hand experience with both. As an aside, I recently installed a lan in my home as part of some improvements we're making. I decided to have a professional installation rather than diy. I was talking to the lan guy about being able to wan over dsl or cable, and he strongly recommended dsl for higher average throughput. I'm sure it varies by city, and even by neighborhood, so your mileage may vary. Given the one-way cable service, I'd opt for the dsl.
