Frank and/or anyone:

A rumor of JNPR and CIEN getting together came out today, and while there have already been discussions on the financial aspects, I am curious as to know the technical side of this potential story. Does this kind of merger make sense from some of the fundamental trends occurring in networking today? In the past I have read some articles on how terabit routing and optical networking combined may do away with some other parts of the legacy networking infrastructure, but as usual, I have a hard time separating the journalistic hype from the reality of the situation. I guess I am trying to ascertain whether such a combination makes only financial sense, or only networking sense, or both. Any thoughts, comments, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
